PT Idea Cipta Senandika (ICSD) is pleased to share our participation in the 9th International Symposium of the Indonesian Anthropology Journal, hosted by Universitas Indonesia.
The symposium brought together scholars, practitioners, and researchers to discuss emerging anthropological perspectives on contemporary social, environmental, cultural, and development challenges in Indonesia.
As part of the symposium, Adi Prasetijo and Rhino Ariefiansyah served as conveners of the panel Beyond Compliance: Social Safeguards, Financial Governance, and Pluriversal Justice in Indonesia’s Development Practice. The panel explored how development practice can move beyond procedural compliance toward more meaningful approaches to consent, community participation, cultural heritage, governance, and justice.
Five papers involving our researchers were presented across different panels:
1. Engineering Consent: FPIC Beyond Compliance and the Production of Legitimation in Indonesia’s Energy Transition, by Adi Prasetijo. Panel: Beyond Compliance: Social Safeguards, Financial Governance, and Pluriversal Justice in Indonesia’s Development Practice
2. Who Defines Impact? Community Co-Assessment in Cultural Heritage Safeguarding, by Manarul Hidayat & Masdar Faridl AS. Panel: Beyond Compliance: Social Safeguards, Financial Governance, and Pluriversal Justice in Indonesia’s Development Practice
3. Transformation of Pilgrimage Rituals: Renewable Energy and Threats to Cultural Heritage in Reservoir Areas, by Manarul Hidayat & Masdar Faridl AS. Panel: After the Grid: Renewable Frontiers, the Politics of Life, and the (Un/)Governance of Possible Futures
4. Uncomfortable Intimacies: Feminist Reflexivity in Understanding Women’s Lives, by Dhinie Afrilia Ryhilda & Salsabila Harinda Maharani. Panel: Addressing the Polyphonic Voices and the Increasing Complexity of Human Life: Developing Diverse Ethnographic Genres
5. Social Institutions: A Crucial Link for Stingray Conservation, by Melly Ayu Oktavi. Panel: Pluriversal Coastal Governance: Tenure, Citizenship, and Maritime Worlds
Our participation reflects ICSD’s continued commitment to bringing anthropological knowledge, critical inquiry, and grounded social research into development practice.
We are proud to contribute to conversations that connect academic scholarship with practical questions of social safeguards, cultural heritage, community participation, environmental governance, and pluriversal justice.
A productive space for exchanging ideas, challenging established approaches, and thinking collectively about more socially just and context-sensitive development in Indonesia.
